The MFR treatment
Each MFR treatment session is unique. It is tailored to the needs of each person, their symptoms, function and dysfunction.
All patients attending The Natural Therapy Centre are asked to complete a personal details and medical intake form prior to treatment.
Your MFR therapist will discuss details of your symptoms, history of accidents and other details relevant to the session as well as complete a postural, movement and functional evaluation prior to treatment.
Evaluation of your muscles, joints and connective tissue/fascial system will also be done by gentle palpation of your body on the treatment table. This full evaluation allows your therapist to see and feel for areas requiring treatment in order to facilitate change. Treatment will be carried out not only on the areas of discomfort but also areas of tension elsewhere in your body in order to balance the entire structure.
Patients are treated in underwear or if you prefer, please bring shorts and ladies may opt to wear a vest or crop top.
Please can you refrain from using body moisturiser and fake tan on the day of treatment as your therapist will tend to slip on your skin rather than stretch and release the tight tissue.
Patients often ask how many sessions are required. This is dependent on how your body responds to the treatment and in some cases also dependant on what you do in between sessions with regards to lifestyle, work, stress, sleep and physical demands. However, most people feel changes early on in treatment and continue to progress after each session.
Some patients initially prefer to come for regular weekly or twice weekly treatments in order to resolve their pain as quickly as possible then return every few months for top up appointments. Others prefer to come on a less regular basis. Either option is acceptable however less frequent appointments can mean that the return to health can be a slower process.
Please note that any person undergoing medical tests and scans will be asked to obtain consent for treatment from their GP. MFR is not a suitable alternative for professional medical intervention and diagnosis. Patients on certain medications would not be able to use MFR as a treatment approach.
The MFR rehabilitation and self help program
Your therapist will be able to provide you with information to help you understand your condition in order to help you adapt things you do in your lifestyle and in your posture that may be harbouring your pain and dysfunction. They will also be able to provide you with an easy and effective home program of stretch and exercise to enhance your treatment.
Core stability and flexibility is paramount to your return to health and fitness. Pilates rehabilitation is provided at The Natural Therapy Centre by Jane Meek, a Body Control Pilates teacher and MFR therapist. Jane runs Pilates classes in the area and also provides one to one Pilates rehabilitation treatments at the clinic.
